TechPresident racking up impressive awards

TechPresident.com, a blog which covers the use of technology in the presidential campaigns, has been racking up some impressive awards lately. In early August, the blog was named one of the 10 finalists for the Knight-Batten Awards for Innovations in Journalism, and recently, it was named one of the Top 100 Undiscovered Websites of 2007 by PC Magazine. Since June, Lightbulb First has performed custom development on several modules within the techPresident Drupal platform. The site is available at http://www.techpresident.com/.

TechPresident offers a number of interesting streams of information. Most prominent is its blog, including a daily digest of news in the intersection of technology and presidential politics. It also features a fascinating set of charts which compare how the candidates are doing online by tracking their MySpace friends, Facebook supporters, and other kinds of social networking metrics. Finally, it hosts Politickr, which aggregates RSS feed items from each candidate's blog, and displays a tag cloud for each item; Politickr was initially implemented by Michael Whitney.

It's been a real pleasure working with techPresident staff. Both the awards they've received, and the impressive array of tools for visualizing and analyzing the online presidential race, testify to their creativity and knack for technology journalism. Through my work on both the charts and the Politickr application, I've seen some of the inner workings of this dynamic team, and I'm glad to see that they are getting some well-deserved notoriety.

There are some exciting new features coming down the pike at techPresident, so keep your eyes peeled, and browsers open!
