Live from Main Street Miami to air this weekend

This weekend, a new episode of Live from Main Street will be taped in Miami. The show will focus on the economic crisis, and will be produced by The Media Consortium in partnership with the Miami Workers Center. The episode will be posted to YouTube and embedded on the Live from Main Street site.

Tibet Povety Alleviation Fund launches new online store

The Tibet Poverty Alleviation Fund has launched a new online store, the Dropenling Tibet Handicraft Development Center, a social enterprise dedicated to improving the lives of Tibetan artisans throughout Tibet by selling only unique, high quality handicrafts made in Tibet, by Tibetans. Lightbulb First developed and launched the online store for TPAF, using the Drupal 5.x platform and the Drupal eCommerce module.

Welcoming Websites launches new UUSC site

As the 2008 Unitarian Universalist General Assembly begins, Welcoming Websites is proud to announce the launch of the new website for the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee. The new website reorganizes UUSC's content around four high-level navigation menus, and allows visitors to learn a great deal about UUSC's four focus areas, its membership engagement activities, and its wide range of human rights advocacy resources.

New England Clean Energy Council site launched today

The New England Clean Energy Council (NECEC) website launched today, with the support of Lightbulb First Consulting. NECEC, formed through the merger of the New England Energy Initiative Collaborative and the Clean Energy Council, has a mission of accelerating New England's clean energy economy. The council brings together business owners, innovators, investors, and job seekers into a broad-ranging community, in order to facilitate the growth of this important industry sector.

Community supported agriculture websites

This past spring, my wife and I bought a share in a community-supported farm. It's been a lot of fun, making my way to the supermarket every week, picking out the choicest specimens of lettuce, tomatoes and peppers, and flipping through recipe books trying to figure out what to do with it all. We're discovering all sorts of new dishes, eating better, and supporting an environmentally friendly way of farming.

Mobile Get Out the Vote software at Dev House Boston

As I wrote on Friday, the third Dev House Boston happened this Sunday, and I was in attendance. Although I was only able to stay for the morning, I had a great time, met some fascinating Boston-area technologists, and got started on a fascinating little project which, I hope, will prove useful for at least a few people.

DevHouse Boston

This Sunday, September 16, I will be attending DevHouse Boston, a one day hacking event bringing together programmers, designers, and others to "hack out something cool." The event, held at a Cambridge, MA co-working facility called BetaHose, is entirely improvisational - developers can drop by with an idea they'd like to work on, or join others in doing something interesting.

Apart from my work here at Lightbulb First, I also blog at MyDD.com, a prominent progressive political blog, on the weekends. As you might have gathered from the focus of Lightbulb First, one of my main interests is the use of web technology to build community and develop interesting ideas.

TechPresident racking up impressive awards

TechPresident.com, a blog which covers the use of technology in the presidential campaigns, has been racking up some impressive awards lately. In early August, the blog was named one of the 10 finalists for the Knight-Batten Awards for Innovations in Journalism, and recently, it was named one of the Top 100 Undiscovered Websites of 2007 by PC Magazine.
